English

In English students develop knowledge, skills and understanding about English language and literature and the ability to talk, listen, read, view, and write with purpose, effect and confidence. They develop knowledge of the ways in which language varies according to context and a sound grasp of the language structures, spelling and grammar.

The three broad strands of English are:

Talking and Listening

Reading

Writing.

Literacy is integrated across the KLAs using a whole school language approach. Teaching strategies encompass modelled, guided and independent meaningful learning experiences. Students are engaged in essential literacy skills including Spelling Mastery, shared reading, guided reading, novel study, grammar and punctuation, comprehension, literary and factual text types and handwriting. A ‘Classroom Library’ has been developed with a broad range of literature to encourage students to read for pleasure.
