Homework

Homework is an essential part of the learning process for your child and has many benefits.

Homework is an opportunity for parents to participate in their child’s education. Homework complements and reinforces classroom learning and fosters lifelong study habits.

Teachers usually advise parents of homework expectations at the beginning of the year in the information booklet that is sent home. The homework set for children will vary depending on their age and the subject.

The degree of difficulty and length of homework will also be set according to the age and abilities of the student. Within the homework, teachers will try to incorporate whole-school education programs such as Mathletics and Moodle (where it is age appropriate).

At Al Amanah College, we acknowledge that children need time after school for extra -curricular activities, for relaxation and for family time. Therefore, the homework amount set is left to the teacher’s discretion.

At Al Amanah College, homework serves as a valuable opportunity for parents to engage actively in their child’s learning journey. It complements and reinforces classroom instruction, supports the development of independent study habits, fosters personal responsibility, and enhances communication between home and school regarding student progress.

Teachers communicate homework expectations to parents at the beginning of the academic year through an information booklet distributed to families. Homework tasks are designed to be developmentally appropriate and vary in content, complexity, and duration based on the student’s age and individual learning needs.

Weekly homework includes targeted tasks that aim to consolidate key concepts and skills in alignment with the school curriculum. These tasks may include:

  • Online Learning Management System – Moodle
  • Reading daily to develop reading fluency and comprehension
  • Maths Mentals Textbook to develop mental computation
  • Online activities using Studyladder, Mathletics etc.
  • ICT skills are integrated into the weekly online homework activitiesincluding typing practice, researching, literacy and numeracy activities, digital literacy and citizenship
  • Assessment tasks across subjects

At Al Amanah College, we recognise the importance of maintaining a balanced lifestyle for students. The amount of homework are determined at the professional discretion of the classroom teacher.
