Business studies course in Stage 6 presents numerous aspects of business value adding processes and context which students will encounter over an extended period of time. Studies in Year 11 involves the investigation of SME’s while the HSC course puts global businesses under the microscope where students investigate the interactions amongst the four KBF’s and how these large multinationals operate, often in a very complex global market. The course sows the seeds of interest for further studies at tertiary level in a multitude of areas of studies such as finance, economics, accounting, marketing and a host of undergraduate degrees with double majors.

Geographers investigate the opportunities for human activities, the constraints placed upon them and the impacts of these activities. The study of Geography allows students to perceive the world in a variety of ways and helps them make sense of a complex and changing world. The Stage 6 course entails investigation of the natural and human features of the world which informs student’s ability to interpret the varied character of the earth and its people. Through the utilisation of a range of learning methodologies; investigating, synthesising researched data, carrying out fieldwork and reading and comprehension students develop the skills to recognise and understand environmental change and the interactions which take place in our world in order to strengthen our students capacity to develop a holistic view of the world, made up of the natural and social sciences.

Preliminary Geography investigates issues of people in relation to the natural world; biosphere, lithosphere, atmosphere and hydrosphere. The course places emphasis on population, political geography and the use of natural resources by industries for economic benefit. There is the opportunity to apply skills developed in class in a Senior Geography Project, which is a small scale individual investigation into an area of the student’s interest.

H.S.C. Geography looks at the vital and interrelated issues of globalisation, transnational corporations, growth of mega cities and the impact of humans on vulnerable ecosystems.

The Modern History Stage 6 course challenges students to assess social, technological, economic, political and moral transformations from the late eighteenth century to the present era. The course encourages students to analyse the causes, progress and effects of these transformations and to formulate well informed valid judgements about them. Studies in the Modern History course enriches the lives of students, as the events and issues investigated, in many cases, are still current or are beginning to reoccur in differing context and geopolitical regions.

Knowledge, skills, values and attitudes developed in the course act as a catalyst in promoting a cohesive, progressive and a tolerant Australian society. Modern History in Year 11 and 12 empowers students to become responsible and active citizens in a diverse multicultural Australia. The course also focuses on strengthening critical thinking, communicating and effectively using ICT, which have become essential in today’s labour market
